Lesson Plan on Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Goals of the lesson (SWBAT):
Basics on Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who he was, what he did
Describe what simple annotating
Criticize what is beat poetry
Have powerpoint ready..

[2 min] Handout sheets of paper to class (one per pair) [Each sheet has three poems, brief bio]

[1 min] Introduce ourselves and whom we will be talking about

[4 min] Before we start, does anyone know anything on Lawrence? –Answer-

[10 min] Read note cards on Lawrence Ferlinghetti (Bio, and tell class to turn to side with bio)

Importance of Lawrence
[1 min] The beat poetry
[3 min] What is beat poetry
[2 min] [Practically allowed pornography due to howl]

[1 min] Next we will be annotating two poems 

[10 min] Quick lesson on how to annotate/analyze a poem.
-Have you analyzed a poem before?
-What do you know?
-What should you look for? 

[5 min] Poem 1
[5 min] Go over with class [If missed anything explain importance]

[2 min] Lawrence poem reading

[5 min] Poem 2
[5 min] Go over with class [If missed anything explain importance]

IF WE HAVE TIME…. (if we are running on time and all is going smooth)

[5 min] Poem 3
[5 min] Go over with class [If missed anything explain importance]

[2-4 min] Then conclude with questions

[Remainder] ...If we run ahead of time then handout pop quiz, and then take it up.
